Gujranwala: To stop wastage of water, WASA has decided to install metres and set the cost of water per litre, a news source reported. Water metres will be installed and a testing laboratory will be established. CCTV cameras will also be installed.
The consumers will receive bills according to the usage. The megaproject will cost PKR 500 million over five years. Paperwork for the project has been completed and release of PKR 1 million has been approved.
Now new metres will be approved at a cost of PKR 10,000 to be paid by the consumer. To ensure the success of the project, 109 new personnel will be recruited including metre readers, metre inspectors, mechanic helpers, and mechanical sub-engineers.
Water will be billed per unit in a system similar to gas and electricity billing. Recommendations for the installation of water metres had been sent to Planning & Development Department, which have been approved.
