Lahore: Water and Sanitation Authority (WASA) has decided to restart the project to lay modern sewerage system in the city, reported a news source. Under this project, sewers in the city will operate on tunnel boring technology.
Financial and technical assistance has also been sought from Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) of China. In this regard, a formal meeting was held between WASA Managing Director Syed Zahid Aziz and representatives of the AIIB. The meeting was also attended by WASA officials and those representing National Engineering Service of Pakistan.
The meeting also discussed the feasibility of setting up tunnel bores in populated parts of the city. The meeting members also agreed to reduce flow of sewerage water from Cant drain. Speaking at the occasion, Aziz said that replacement of old and outdated sewerage system with modern and smart technology is needed by the city.
Reportedly, the representatives of AIIB assured WASA of technical and financial assistance to improve the sewerage system in Lahore.
