Lahore: Following the instructions of Lahore High Court (LHC), Water and Sanitation Authority (WASA) has decided to form a Water Police Force, reported a news source. The related arrangements for the formation of the force are being carried out.

LHC had instructed WASA and Lahore Development Authority to share their plan on stopping water wastage in the city while hearing a case filed against the practice of washing cars with hosepipes.

The Water Police Force will initially issue warnings to people washing their cars at home with hosepipes and later fine them. Those not taking the warning seriously and found wasting water after receiving the warning will be made to pay fines amounting to PKR 200,000 or serve three months in jail.

WASA is also looking to launch an awareness campaign against water wastage. The campaign to broadcast the details on repercussions of water wasting practice in WASA controlled areas will be launched soon.
