Lahore: Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan recently directed the Water and Sanitation Authority (WASA), Lahore to immediately initiate the development work for setting up waste water treatment plants within the city, according to a news source.

Reportedly, WASA Vice Chairman S.M Imran had briefed the PM on the planned projects during his visit to Lahore on June 13. After receiving the briefing, the PM directed the vice chairman to start work on the proposed projects immediately. As per the PM’s directives, the provincial government proceeded to issue the related instructions, and also granted an approval for the issuance of PKR 30 million for the said projects.

As per the details available, the waste water treatment plants will be developed at Shahdara, Babu Sabu and Shad Bagh/Mehmood-booti. The approved funds will be spent on the preparation of a PC-I, feasibility study, and the process to issue and award tenders for the project. The remaining expenses will be acquired through foreign loans.

In this regard, sources within WASA have revealed that the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, the France Development Agency, and a Chinese company have already expressed an interest in providing loans for this project.
