Rawalpindi: The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Rawalpindi has announced its plan to initiate a study to assess the groundwater table in the garrison city, according to news published on November 30.

WASA Spokesperson Umer Farooq stated that the agency plans to start working on the future water requirements of the city. He said that over 430 tube wells are functioning at present in the city, and still the agency cannot meet the water requirements. Mr Umer revealed that the government has introduced several plans to bring water from various dams. He went on to say that work on three projects to bring water from Chahan Dam, Rawal Dam and Daducha Dam has already been launched.

It was highlighted that 12 million gallon daily (MGD) of water will be brought from Chahan Dam to union councils in Potohar Town. Similarly, 5 MGD of water will be brought from Rawal Dam to areas along Murree Road and the old water supply line would be repaired. In addition, 25 MGD water will be brought from Daducha Dam to the city and work on the project’s feasibility study has already been started.
Furthermore, it was announced that the government has allocated PKR 250 million for the augmentation of Chahan Dam source. It was also announced that comprehensive water supply schemes for Kehkashan Colony, Janjua Town, Sanjole Estate, Mohammadi Colony, Khyaban-i-Jinnah, Bank Colony and adjoining areas would be started.
