As per the project details, a pipeline from Rawal Dam would be installed to supply 5 million gallons of water to Rawalpindi. WASA Rawalpindi Managing Director (MD) Muhammad Tanveer stated in a media interaction that after the PDWP approves the concept paper, a thorough pipeline design would be completed by a consultant before floating a tender for the project’s development. He stated that the Asian Development Bank’s steering committee has already authorized the project and now awaits final government approval before work can begin.
The WASA MD explained that the project is a component of the 2001 pipeline project, which was intended to supply 28 million gallons of water per day from the Rawal Dam to Rawalpindi. However, due to the pipeline’s narrow diameter, only 23 million gallons of water is now accessible.

It is worth noting that Rawalpindi is one of the country’s major cities, with a daily water demand of 68 million gallons, whereas the WASA only provides 51 million gallons per day.
