Rawalpindi: The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) has prepared a plan for a project worth PKR 2 billion geared to supply five million gallons of water, daily, to the city – according to a news source. Under this initiative, the authority will lay a 10-kilometre water line between the Rawal Dam filtration plant and Saidpur Road — with the venture set to be funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

According to the details available, a 48-inch water line has already been laid between Rawalpindi and Rawal Dam; however, it is no longer functional. Now, a new 30-inch line will be laid within the old one to supply water. This will increase the current supply of 10 million gallons of water from Rawal Dam to 15 million gallons.

The total water supply required for Rawalpindi is estimated to be 64 million gallons, while currently, WASA is supplying around 53 million gallons. Of this, 10 million gallons comes from the Rawal Dam, 7 million gallons from the Khanpur Dam and 36 million gallons from 400 tubewells. After the water line project has been completed, the difference in the required amount of water and the amount supplied to the city will shrink down to just 6 million gallons (as compared to the current 11-million-gallon shortfall).
