Rawalpindi: The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) on Saturday launched an operation against defaulters, according to news sources. Under this drive, the agency has imposed a monetary penalty of PKR 233,440 on defaulting clients.

In addition to imposing this fine the agency confiscated 15 water motors. Moreover, it has issued notices to 25 house owners for using illegal water connections. The operation against consumers – who have registered themselves as domestic users untruthfully or have acquired illegal connections – was conducted under the instructions of Vice Chairman Haroon Kanal Hashmi and Managing Director Raja Shaukat Kamal.

WASA Rawalpindi spokesperson Umer Farooq revealed that the operation has been conducted under the law for identifying defaulters. Under this operation, several illegal water connections were detected in various parts of the city. Farooq revealed that this operation against water theft/illegal connections and defaulters will continue and all culprits will face consequences.
