Rawalpindi: Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Vice Chairman (VC) Haroon Kamal Hashmi said on Monday (August 23) that the agency had exceeded its income collection target for the fiscal year 2020-21. news sources reported. The agency has collected PKR 475 million, which accounts for a PKR 105 million increase over the set target of PKR 370 million.

WASA VC Hashmi revealed the information in a meeting and stated that the agency will continue to work hard and recover PKR 500 million in the current fiscal year. To that end, he instructed city officials to begin a crackdown on defaulters of water charges in all areas of the city. He also barred the relevant departments from granting No-Objection Certificates (NOCs) to private housing schemes until their outstanding bills are cleared. In this respect, the WASA magistrate stated that summons had been issued to the defaulters in order to receive the payments.

Furthermore, WASA officials told the meeting participants about the city’s current initiatives, such as the Kehkashan Water Supply Scheme, under which, nine tube wells have been installed so far to provide clean drinking water to the 300,000 inhabitants of Adiala Road. In the following two months, the project will begin providing households with potable water. WASA will also issue tenders for 20 additional schemes, according to authorities, while the prequalification process for firms continues.
