Lahore: The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) seeks to introduce amendments in bylaws that will make rainwater harvesting wells and wastewater treatment plants compulsory in housing societies, according to a news report.
Apart from these amendments, WASA also plans to install six mega wastewater treatment plants in various spots around Lahore. Rainwater harvesting involves storing surface rainwater runoff for future usage utilising various techniques. WASA Managing Director Syed Zahid Aziz stated that a large chunk of housing societies in Lahore do not have rainwater harvesting arrangements. This causes issues for the public, especially in the monsoon, when WASA has to utilise resources to drain water from flooded parts of the city. If rainwater harvesting techniques are used, this flooding will also be reduced.
