Lahore: The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) has proposed a 97% increase in water tariff for domestic consumers, a news source reported.

This proposal is part of the agency’s six-year business plan, which is aimed at improving its financial condition.
Reportedly, WASA will increase its charges over a period of three years: 47% in the first year and 25% each in the next two years.
Domestic consumers will have to pay PKR 591 after the tariff comes into force. At present, water charges for households amount to PKR 300.
WASA would no longer have to seek government subsidy after increasing its charges. However, the agency has yet to get its business plan approved by the Lahore Development Authority (LDA).

Previously, the Punjab government had asked WASA to submit a business model for overcoming its internal financial crisis.
