Lahore: The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) has decided to raise ‘Augmentation Charges’ for multi-story commercial buildings in Lahore by 200 %, according to press reports on December 02. The authority has already created a working document for the rate increase, which will be submitted to the government for final approval.

According to sources, WASA Managing Director (MD) Syed Zahid Aziz stated that the tariff modifications have been recommended in order to collect revenue for the building and maintenance of the sewerage system on Ferozpur Road. The following rate modifications have been suggested for several categories:
- PKR 600,000 will be charged from one kanal single-storey commercial buildings instead of the previous rate of PKR 200,000
- PKR 650,000 will be charged from one kanal double-storey commercial building instead of PKR 225,000
- PKR 700,000 augmentation charges will be charged from one kanal triple-storey commercial buildings against the previous charges of PKR 250,000
- PKR 800,000 will be charged from one kanal four-storey building instead of previous augmentation charges of PKR 300,000.

Moreover, in November this year, WASA hired a Chinese firm for the installation of water meters for commercial and domestic users that will also charge increased rates.
