Faisalabad: The Water and Sanitation Authority (WASA) Managing Director (MD) Jabbar Anway Chaudhry on Wednesday (March 10) said that projects worth PKR 55 billion for uplifting the city’s sewerage system and water supply line is currently underway, according to a news source. These development schemes will be completed in three years and are aimed to transform the city.
WASA MD shared this information while addressing a ceremony organised by Faisalabad Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) and All Pakistan Textile Processing Mills Association (APTPMA) to honour the agency.

As per the details MD Chaudhary shared, work is underway on a 44 million gallon wastewater treatment plant at a cost of PKR 19 billion. In addition to this, the second of the French-funded water supply project – that aims to provide 30 million gallons of water per day – is also underway. Other projects include the JICA-funded PKR 7 billion water supply network for the eastern parts of the city and the Punjab Government’s PKR 5 billion project to lay water supply lines.
These project will be completed in the next 3 years. In order to make the project development phase practical, it was decided that using development funds as non-development funds will be banned. Implementing the said strategy has worked for WASA, leading to positive outcomes.

MD Chaudhary further mentioned that underground water storage tanks like those built in Lahore will be established on Djikot Road to fix the standing water issues. He mentioned that 90% of the broken sewerage lines’ problem is due to the negligence of the citizens.
