Rawalpindi: Water and Sanitation Authority has ordered to shut down hand pumps and water bores handled and operated by public, reported a news source. The authority has declared publically operated hand pumps and water bores illegal.

Currently, 30 hand pumps are functional in six union councils of Rawalpindi. When WASA teams headed to the sites to implement the orders, it faced serious resistance. The citizens of these union councils said that it costs about PKR 100,000 to install a hand pump and WASA has now declared these illegal.

The residents of these councils announced that they would challenge WASA’s decision in court this Saturday.
