Rawalpindi: The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) has started the cleaning of Nullah Leh to improve the flow of rainwater during the monsoon season, according to a news story published in the leading newspaper on May 24.

WASA Managing Director Raja Shaukat Mehmood notified Deputy Commissioner (DC) Tahir Farooq that the cleanliness work on the Nullah Leh was started on time. As per the details, the cleaning up work will be completed by June 30. DC Tahir Farooq visited the WASA offices to review the arrangements made to deal with the flood-like situation in the city.
Moreover, the managing director revealed that the agency has completed all the arrangements to make its machinery functional during the monsoon season. He also added that the city has been divided into four sectors and emergency centres were opened in the areas. He further stated that special attention will be given to low lying areas in order to prevent water accumulation in such areas.

Reportedly, WASA has over 28 dewatering sets for draining out four cusecs water at a time. The government has provided PKR 30 million funds for the cleaning of Nullah Leh. Managing Director Mehmood disclosed that waste from under the bridges was removed to ensure a smooth flow of water. The debris from the nullah is being transferred out of the city to keep the sewerage lines clean.
