WASA is working in association with stakeholders on finding alternate sources of water and is also taking measures to stop the underground water level from declining at such an alarming rate.
Mazhar briefed the media that WASA has finalised PC-1 to procure 100 cusecs of water from the irrigation department to make it part of the water distribution in the city. The authority is looking make the quantity reach 1,000 cusecs by 2035.
Answering a question, Mazhar said that WASA has a total of 750,000 water consumers in Lahore but only 40,000 of these have water metres installed. To fill this gap, tenders are to be floated to install more meters. He also indicated of a possible rise in water tariff as the authority hasn’t done so since 2004.
