According to a meeting conducted on Tuesday (April 05) at Wasa Head Office and led by the Managing Director (MD) WASA M Tanveer, it was highlighted that the city is suffering a water crisis. To discourage water waste, WASA has organised teams of officers and revenue department personnel who will visit various parts of the city to monitor the situation. According to reports, the campaign’s primary targets are car washes and water-dependent factories and enterprises. The teams will pay surprise visits to stations that do not have water treatment and recycling facilities and charge them with hefty fines. Similarly, anyone responsible for blocking sewage systems would face steep fines.

It is worth noting that the United Nations (UN) has designated Pakistan as a water-stressed country with the least storage capacity. Lahore has also been designated as the country’s most water-stressed metropolis, with a diminishing supply of underground water. WASA has reached a deal with a Chinese firm for smart meters that would accurately detect water usage in order to reduce water waste.
