Lahore: The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) has invited tenders for 711,265 water meters from international companies by August 30 – a news source reported on August 21.

According to details, WASA has prepared plans to stop the wastage of water and charge consumers according to their usage through the installation of water meters; with tenders having been invited for the project set to be completed on a public-private partnership basis from both local and international firms. The authorities concerned have published the invitations to submit tenders in several international publications; calling on interested firms to submit proposals for 711,265 water meters.
The authorities have also formulated the SOPs for having the meters installed by international firms should they be chosen. One firm or a joint venture of two firms can also submit their proposals under this invitation.

The meters will be installed within 2 years and the company contracted will be responsible for seeing to all the expenses incurred during the process; with the amount invested scheduled to be repaid over a period of 10 years. During this time frame, the service consumers would be required to pay the cost of the meters along with their utility bills.
