Rawalpindi: The Water and Sanitation Authority (WASA) has launched an austerity drive, according to a news source. As per reports, it is taking this measure to save money on office expenditure. The officials concerned specifically directed all WASA officers to reduce the usage of air conditioners.
WASA Managing Director Mohammad Tanveer issued a circular in this regard which stated that all WASA officers must switch off their air conditioners when they’re not in the office. WASA Spokesperson Umer Farooq stated that other measures are also underway to reduce electricity bills. This will alleviate the civic body’s financial crisis and reduce wastage of money and energy.
Farooq stated that the money saved would be used on welfare schemes and to pay outstanding bills. He added that there were more than 440 tubewells in the city and WASA has to clear dues of over six months. These austerity measures are being lauded as a good effort to curb excessive government spending and serve the public more effectively.
