Rawalpindi: The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) has approved an increased water tariff for residential and commercial water consumers in Rawalpindi, according to news sources.
As per the revised charges, all restaurants, stores, plazas, gas and service stations, laundries, salons, cottage and beverage factories will be charged a higher fee for water consumption. The WASA authority meeting unanimously agreed to this price hike, and decided that mosques and other worship places will be exempted from these charges.

As for the residential users; the water rates have been increased from:
- PKR 98 to PKR 225 for 1 to 5-Marla housing units
- PKR 160 to PKR 400 for 5 to 7-Marla housing units
- PKR 220 to PKR 500 for 7 to 10-Marla housing units
- PKR 250 to PKR 650 for 10 to 15-Marla housing units
- PKR 375 to PKR 800 for 15 to 20-Marla housing units
- PKR 625 to PKR 1,000 for 20 to 25-Marla housing units
- PKR 688 to PKR 1,200 for 25 to 30-Marla housing units
- PKR 795 to PKR 1,450 for 30-Marla to 2-Kanal housing units
- PKR 883 to PKR 1,500 for housing units spanning over 2 Kanals

In a related development, WASA has also increased the fees for water connection installation, both for residential and commercial consumers. The residential fee has been raised from PKR 3,400 to PKR 5,000, and the commercial connection fee has increased from PKR 6,400 to PKR 10,000. The department has revised these fees after a period of twelve years.
