Gujranwala: The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) has uncovered 65,000 illegal water connections in the city, whose users owe the authority millions of rupees in unpaid utility bills – a news source reported.
Following up on this discovery, the authority has issued notices to these individuals along with setting up teams to regularise their illegal connections and make bill recoveries.

As per the report, Chairman WASA Sheikh Amir Rehman has set a recovery target of PKR 250 million for this year; as opposed to the recovery target of PKR 82 million for the previous fiscal year. WASA Gujranwala has been facing a financial crisis like its counterpart in other cities.
Previously, total WASA connections in Gujranwala were thought to number about 135,000, but now that the illegal connections have been found, their number stands at 200,000.
