Rawalpindi: The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) has completed the task of de-silting and dredging of Nullah Leh in preparation for the monsoon rains expected in July every year – a news source reported.
The Punjab government has allocated PKR 10 million to WASA for this work. WASA has also completed the improvement work on sewerage and drainage systems in various parts of Rawalpindi. Special attention was given to union councils that are generally flooded during the rains.
According to WASA Deputy Director Umar Farooq, the Managing Director (MD) Tanvir Ahmed made surprise midnight visits to inspect the scope of work carried out on the improvement of the sewerage as well as drainage system. The old and rusty sewerage pipes were replaced and leakages were repaired in order to avert accumulation of water during the upcoming rainy season.
The MD has directed WASA officials to remain on high alert to assess and review the water situation during the monsoon rains.
