Rawalpindi: Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) took action against water theft and defaulters and disconnected the water connections of 15 big hotels and 12 service stations, among other connections in residential and commercial areas, a news source reported.
The last notices for installation of water recycling plants by 15th December have also been issued to 110 service stations so that the water can be used again and waste could be reduced. The service stations that do not install water recycling plants have been warned that they will be sealed and their water connection will be cut off.
Action was also taken against water plants that sell water, and three were sealed as a result and their electricity connections cut off.
Director General WASA said that the crackdown against defaulters will continue, however, defaulters may be allowed to pay their due amounts in instalments. He added that the prospect of registering cases against defaulters from now is also under consideration.
WASA recently also suggested a 200% increase in water bills to curb water wastage.
