Lahore: The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) has finalised the construction of a large storage tank designed to store the city’s entire cache of incident rainwater, according to a news source published on July 20.

WASA Managing Director Zahid Aziz said that this rainwater will be later used for multiple purposes , including horticulture. Reportedly, the said tank spans over 1,416 square kilometres and is 15 feet deep. The project was developed with a cost of PKR 150 million and was constructed within three months.

Aziz said that the tank is operational and is storing water from the ongoing rain spells in the city. He said that the water storage tank can host over 1.6 million gallons of rainwater, however, the ceiling of the tank has yet to be built.
Moreover, he stated that even if it rains 100 mm, the streets of Lahore will no longer be flooded as rainwater will be diverted to the tank through the pipes laid beneath the roads. The WASA MD said that the agency plans to build three more such tanks in the city.
