The operation involves clearing silt and other sediments from 11 major storm drains (including Nullah Leh). This task is critical because the desilting of nullahs prevents rainwater from flooding the city’s lowlands, by diverting water through the storm drains.

The agency officials revealed that that WASA has requested the provincial government to issue PKR 40 million in funds on an expedited basis so that the desilting process can be initiated. Managing Director WASA Iftikharuddin further said that the preparations to initiate pre-monsoon cleaning have been completed. He added that if funds weren’t released in time, the chances of flooding in the city’s low lying areas during the monsoon season could escalate.
