Lahore: The Lahore High Court directed the Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA) to clean the walled city, according to a news report. Directions for operation against encroachments inside the walled city areas have been given and the Mayor has been asked to supervise the entire operation.
Justice Ali Akbar Qureshi had rejected a report by the authority earlier as well and taken action against the encroachments. He also said that the court would engage with the Rangers if the authority failed to remove encroachments from the area. Furthermore, the deputy commissioner was directed to continue operations against encroachments on The Mall Road, Hall Road and Beadon Road without any favour or fear. He said this is essential for protecting rights of pedestrians. Qureshi has also summoned the WCLA Director General Kamran Lashari for a detailed report on the performance of the authority in preservation of historical buildings.
