Addressing the attendees, the commissioner said that the project will change the face of Rawalpindi once it is completed (tentatively) by December 2023. After the road opens to traffic, heavy vehicles will be banned from entering the city, he said.
He further stated that a total eight economic zones will be established along the RRR and that all wholesale markets, bus stands, warehouses and factories will be relocated to the project route. This will make the city’s road less crowded. Mehmood specifically mentioned that members of the business community will be allowed to purchase land in these economic zones as per their needs. ‘The government will ensure road access, and water, gas and electricity supply to these zones’, he said.
