Lahore: Lahore Deputy Commissioner (DC) Umer Shah Chattha on Wednesday (January 12) chaired a meeting to discuss the usage of plastic in the construction of roads in the city, according to news sources.

Reportedly, the district administration will launch a pilot project of constructing a one-kilometre patch of plastic road. The district administration invited Dr Waqas Cheema from Islamabad to give a briefing about the construction of plastic roads.
As per the details, Dr Cheema stated that eight types of plastic will be used to construct roads. For the said construction projects, plastic will be cleaned and dried to turn into powder. After that, the powder will be mixed with charcoal to be used in the construction process of roads.
Moreover, it was disclosed 5-ton of plastic will be used for the development of the road. It was also reported that 5% of plastic and 95% of charcoal will be utilised for construction.

It is pertinent to mention that LDA, earlier this week, announced the rehabilitation of Ferozepur road using plastic. This will be the first plastic road to be constructed in Lahore.
