Islamabad: Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry recently announced that a Chinese company called Skywell Automobile had pledged to invest USD 50 million under the first phase of the government’s programme to make a nationwide shift to electric buses, a news source reported. He further stated that the manufacturing of the said vehicles would begin during the second phase.

He also reiterated that electric buses will be made operational in the country this year. Initially, they will begin operating in Islamabad and Lahore. Skywell Automobile has signed an agreement with Daewoo Express Pakistan to collaborate on the matter of electric buses as well as other electric vehicles in the country, he said.

The minister added that a battery bus service will be starting in the country and 5G service will also become functional in Pakistan. He hoped that the electric vehicles being introduced in the country would help establish an eco-friendly system. It will also help the country play its part in tackling global warming, he stated.
