Islamabad: The urban planning experts from the COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) have called for the construction of new cities towards the west Indus, and development projects along the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a news source reported.

The CUI initiated the Urban Design Thinkers Conference at its premises. Minister for Climate Change Zartaj Gul inaugurated the conference on Wednesday.
Speaking at the occasion, CUI Rector Raheel Qamar stated that urban design thinking was an essential subject, since humanity’s future was dependant on sustainable cities. Meanwhile, various speakers at the conference called for building new cities, and initiating development projects along CPEC.
Addressing the conference, Gul said that authorities concerned were carefully revaluating the CPEC projects before starting work on any of them. She added that this was necessary to preserve the natural heritage of the area, which may become adversely affected by development activities.

The minister also highlighted the importance of making grand architecture, and open spaces, a hallmark at educational institutions. She said that this measure was important for creating a healthy atmosphere for young minds.
