Karachi: Sindh Minister for Information, Archives and Labour Saeed Ghani recently revealed that all principal roads in Lyari Town were being revamped and carpeted for the first time since their development, according to a news source. The minster added that PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had earlier directed the provincial government to initiate various upgradation projects in the area.

According to Ghani, the major issue facing Lyari’s residents has been the lack of drinkable water. The minster observed that the water line from Gulshan-e-Iqbal to Lyari was being substituted with a new above-the-ground line to solve the problem and keep illegal connections in check. Furthermore, he revealed that the sewage problems of Lyari would be dealt with soon and the Jamila Pumping Station, which was built before partition, would be renovated.

On a separate occasion, PTI MNA Shakoor Shad revealed recently that PKR400 million worth of projects were expected to be initiated in Lyari. The present gas pipelines in the area were developed during the tenure of former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. Shad claimed that they were going to replace the old pipelines and construct two more pedestrian bridges on Mauripur Road.

Apart from these projects, the Mirza Adam Khan road, Shah Abdul Latif Road, and the roads near Kakri ground and Lea Market have been refurbished and carpeted recently. Besides, Siddique Wahab Road and Shah Walliullah Road are under rapid construction and repair.
