Islamabad: China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Authority Chairman Lt Gen (R) Asim Saleem Bajwa recently revealed that Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan has approved the decision to upgrade the Karachi-Quetta-Chaman Road into an expressway, according to a news source published on September 24.

The chairman revealed this information in a tweet. On the occasion, he further stated that the 790-kilometre-long Karachi-Quetta-Chaman expressway would be constructed on a build-operate-transfer (BOT) basis — under a Public Private Partnership model. He also said that the process to hire consultancy services for the project had already been initiated.

Chairman Bajwa additionally said that the upgradation of the 790-kilometre road was needed in order to avoid accidents due to its dilapidated state. With this project, the government aims to improve the connectivity of the previously neglected areas of the country.
Furthermore, Bajwa also announced that the construction work on the Mansehra-Thakot motorway had been completed, and that it would be opened to the public soon.
