Islamabad: The incumbent government will prioritise less-developed areas in the next Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP), a news source reported. The Planning, Development, & Reform minister Makhdoom Khusro Bakhtiar stated that regions like Balochistan, rural Sindh, South Punjab, etc. will be prioritised in the next PSDP.

The minister made this announcement during a meeting with the members of the National Assembly from South Punjab. He told that the government is striving for a regional equalisation development strategy to bring the less-developed regions at par with the developed ones in the country.
Bakhtiar announced that a similar meeting has been held to identify the development requirements of Balochistan. He added that such meeting will soon be held with other provinces as well.
The meeting’s participants discussed projects related to road connectivity, water sector, transmission lines, electricity, health, and education for South Punjab. Bakhtiar noted that 35% of the population in the region is living without electricity. He assured that the government is seeking to launch a project in order to provide electricity to the entire area.

The meeting also included a presentation of the ongoing projects under PSDP being implemented in South Punjab. It was shared that there are currently 19 such projects underway at a cost of PKR 69.5 billion.
