Peshawar: The University of Peshawar (UoP) on Thursday (October 07) signed an agreement with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) for reforms in the property tax system, news sources reported.

According to the agreement, the UoP will undertake an assessment of the efficacy of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Urban Immovable Property Tax (UIPT) system, while GIZ will fund the survey and provide technical assistance in interpreting and framing the data. The study’s findings will be used to reform the tax collecting mechanism of the KP Excise and Taxation & Narcotics Control Department.

The agreement was signed at Peshawar University and was attended by Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Idrees, Secretary Excise and Taxation & Narcotics Control Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Syed Haider Iqbal as the guest of honour, GIZ Head of Programme LoGo-II Sanjeev Pokharel, Economics Department Chairperson Dr Naila Nazir, Team Leader KP-UIPT-PDA Khalid Mehmood, and Coordinator DAC Dr Kashif Saeed.
