Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has received international recognition for designating two magnificent tourist areas as Biosphere Reserves by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in Paris, according to news published on June 19.

As per the details, UNESCO recognizes KP for Biosphere reserves, namely the Gallies Biosphere Reserve and Garam Chashma. These reserves have received global acclaim due to their remarkable forests and their status as protected areas.
The news source mentioned that the Gallies Biosphere Reserve encompasses a vast stretch extending from Bagnoter to Barian in Galiyat in the Abbottabad district. Similarly, Garam Chashma in Chitral has also been designated as a Biosphere Reserve. The administration and management of these reserves adhere to the guidelines and principles of UNESCO’s Man and Biosphere (MAB) program. The MAB program primarily focuses on addressing the needs of the local residents while ensuring the sustainable preservation of the environmental system.

Moreover, UNESCO’s recognition of KP for Biosphere reserves is a significant milestone for Wildlife Department as it highlights the importance of their conservation and the well-being of their residents.
