Previously, the government had finalised the former master plan for Rawalpindi in 1996. This plan was intended to act as a guideline for the city’s development for a twenty-year period until 2016. The current master plan, awaiting approval, is geared for developments in the next two decades.
According to experts, Rawalpindi needs a new master plan due to its increasing population. The city’s current arrangement has led to congested public areas, and a shortage of amenities and other public services.
As per reports, the government sent a list of TORs to the Punjab Housing Secretary last month. But the documents have remained unapproved so far. Sources report that work on the master plan will accelerate once the TORs are given the green signal.
