Islamabad: United Nations (UN) Secretary General Antonio Guterres on Monday praised the country’s transformation into a global ‘tourist destination’, according to news sources.
The UN Secretary General was particularly vocal in his acclaim for the city of Islamabad, which has once again become a family station for the world body’s staff. He also lauded the massive improvements in ‘security, basic services and development’ across the country.

Mr. Guterres also acknowledged the country’s generosity in accommodating the influx of Afghan refugees during the past few decades, and lauded Pakistan’s support to promote peace in Afghanistan.
Likewise, he further praised the efforts of Pakistani troops that have been deployed in various UN peacekeeping missions in war-ravaged regions of the world. He especially spoke highly of the “professionalism and commitment” of the Pakistani troops. He added that Pakistan was one of the “most consistent and reliable contributors” to UN peacekeeping missions around the world.

The UN secretary general went on to state that “Pakistan has provided the world with a global public good supporting Afghan refugees and it’s time for the international community to assume its responsibilities, and to support Pakistan very meaningfully.”
In addition, he urged the world community to recognize Pakistan’s commitment in promoting peace and stability in the region, and its support for international cooperation.
