Quetta: Balochistan Chief Minister (CM) Mir Abdul Quddus Bizenjo met with the United Nations (UN) Resident Coordinator for Pakistan Julien Harneis to address issues concerning the province’s environmental challenges, according to news reported on January 12. According to the CM, the government is prepared to handle the concerns with the assistance of the UN and other international organisations (IOs).

According to Julien, the agency is executing master planning for climate change mitigation and ecosystem rehabilitation projects across Pakistan. The survey for this planning will be completed in four months and will provide a clear picture of the challenges faced by the province. The plan also calls for the improvement of canals in four provincial districts: Jaffarabad, Naseerabad, Sohbatpur, and Jhal Magsi. The meeting also reviewed the four districts’ weak drainage systems and called for a plan to mitigate environmental dangers and the risk to human life.

Moreover, both parties also agreed to continue the ongoing efforts in collaboration to improve the living conditions of the province, including a long term planning mechanism.
