Islamabad: British High Commissioner to Pakistan Dr Christian Turner on Thursday (November 04) announced a GBP 55 million support for Pakistan to fight climate change and water sustainability issues, news sources reported. The fund was announced at the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) in Glasgow, Scotland.

The fund will be divided into three streams, according to the commissioner, with GBP 38 million going to climate resilience programmes, GBP 15 million going to water governance programmes, and the remaining GBP 2.5 million going to the generation of investment streams in environment-related schemes such as the ‘Nature Performance Bond.’ Furthermore, the commissioner stated that the financing is intended to foster resilience in Pakistan’s climate change policy, since any extreme shift in climate will have a disastrous impact on the population and region.

That, he claims, is why the United Kingdom (UK) is investing in green initiatives. It is worth noting that over 120 countries have gathered in Glasgow for the highly anticipated COP26 climate change summit to vow extreme actions to keep global temperatures below 2 degrees Celsius.
