Chagai: Pakistan on Wednesday announced its decision to resume trade activities with Iran by opening two additional trade crossing points in Taftan — with the decision having been taken by the National Command Operations Centre last month, according to news sources.

As per the details available, the government closed these trade gateways some two months ago when the coronavirus pandemic broke out in Iran. This closure of border points was extended even further when the pandemic started spreading locally.
After the reopening of Zero Point Gate in Taftan, as many as 17 trawlers loaded with essential food items, Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) tankers, and other necessities arrived in Pakistan through the transit gate.

Taftan Tehsildar Zahoor Baloch confirmed that trade activities were being resumed under precautionary protocols; however, he added that the Rahdari gate would remain closed.
Reportedly, the local business community lauded the decision to resume trade with Iran, as many of them are reliant on trade for their livelihoods.
