Karachi: China has forwarded recommendations regarding the channelisation of Indus River from Guddu Barrage and the socioeconomic uplift of Thar to the Joint Working Group (JWC) for approval, a news source quoted Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.
The Joint Coordination Committee (JCC), the apex decision-making body on China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), had referred the two projects to JWG for approval in a meeting scheduled for March 2019.
Murad expressed the hope that the two projects would be approved by JWG. He added that the channelisation of the river and the uplift schemes for Thar would have a great impact on the overall development of the province. He said the channelisation was a mega project and the provincial government was working to complete its required formalities.
The chief minister said that the Thar Foundation was already working in education, health, socio-forestry and bio-saline agriculture sectors in Thar to bring the impoverished area at par with the rest of the province.
