Karachi: Pegasus Airlines, a low-cost airline service based in Turkey, has announced its decision to initiate flight operations in Pakistan from Istanbul’s Sabiha Gokcen Airport to Karachi – with the first arrival/departure set to commence from March 28 onwards, a news source reported.
To this effect, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has issued permit to the Turkish carrier, which will four weekly scheduled flights between Istanbul and Karachi – becoming the second airline company in Turkey to initiate flight services in Pakistan – the first one being the Turkish Airlines which is already offering flights to-and-from Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad.

The entry of a new airline in the Pakistani aviation sector is expected to bolster the country’s tourism industry and will also rejuvenate the aviation sector.
The development surfaced after the visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to Pakistan, which was underpinned by various trade agreements that were signed between the two countries. These included MoUs pertaining to: banking, economy, trade, customs, finance and agriculture.

Moreover, from April onwards, Pakistan and Turkey would also devise a framework for commencing with negotiations on the Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
