Islamabad: Minister of Railways Sheikh Rashid Ahmad has welcomed Turkish companies to invest in Pakistan Railways, a news source reported. He was addressing an 8-member delegation of the Turkish state-owned railway companies, Talamsas and Raymisas.

Ahmad stated that Pakistan Railways possessed great potential to promote connectivity in the region. This, in turn, would bring about development, and help explore avenues of economic progress.
Pakistan and Turkey enjoy deep, cordial relations, and Pakistan Railways hopes to benefit from this, said the minister. He elaborated that Pakistan Railways aims to apply Turkish expertise for the improved operation of the Railways Carriage and Risalpur Locomotives factories.

Ahmad admitted that the sector was seeking to widen its network, and become part of international joint ventures. Under this vision, he welcomed Turkish companies to submit their proposals for furthering partnership agreements.
In response, the Turkish companies expressed their interest in investing and collaborating with Pakistan Railways. They also invited the minister to visit Turkey, and explore the country’s railway system.
The said companies will be visiting different institutions of Pakistan Railways in the coming days, and meeting their respective heads. They will also be seeking investment opportunities.

Earlier this month, Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan had invited Turkish companies to work on Naya Pakistan Housing Programme (NPHP).
