Islamabad: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has announced that the Turkish government will help Pakistan stay off the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) blacklist, according to a news source. The Turkish president made this statement while addressing the joint session of Parliament held today.

President Erdogan is on a two-day visit to Pakistan, where he also signed two MoUs to enhance bilateral economic engagements between Pakistan and Turkey. He announced Turkey’s support for Pakistan in the upcoming FATF meeting, where Pakistan is facing ‘political pressure’.

The Pakistani Foreign Office is also optimistic that the country will manage to keep its way out of the blacklist, since the completion of its FATF Action Plan is underway. The review meeting on the measures Pakistan is taking as per the action plan will be held in Paris on February 16.

In the last FATF review held in Beijing, China, Pakistan received support from China, the European Union, and the United States regarding the measures it took to counterfeit terror financing and money laundering.
