Islamabad: Top PIA officials, while addressing the National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee on Privatization on Wednesday, revealed that United States (US) President Donald Trump had expressed interest in acquiring the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA)’s Roosevelt Hotel in New York City — a news source reported.

The meeting of the NA committee was chaired by Syed Mustafa Mahmud and it was briefed on the performance of the PIA, PIA (Investment Limited), and the Roosevelt Hotel, New York. The matter of privatization was also discussed.

PIA Investment Limited Managing Director Najeeb Sami revealed that the hotel, which had been profitable in the past, had recorded losses worth USD 1.5 million last year. He was of the opinion that running the entire hotel was not profitable for the PIA anymore, and that it should be converted into offices and hotels. He also informed the committee that it has been decided that the hotel should be leased for a long-term period.
