Islamabad: The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has asked the government to construct a ring road specifically for trucks and heavy traffic, a news source reported. The purpose is to have heavy traffic bypass the city while heading to other parts of the country.
According to ITP recommendations, the ring road should start from GT Road near Sangjani or Tarnol and connect to Rawat “T” Cross. The argument is that heavy vehicles create problems for other vehicles, particularly on Islamabad Expressway often causing traffic jams near Gulberg and Soan Garden. Even traffic going to Lahore via Gujar Khan and Jhelum has to pass through Islamabad Expressway to Rawat “T” Cross.
The problem in particular is caused when Islamabad Expressway converts from five lanes to two lanes ahead of Gulberg while entering the city, ending in frequent traffic jams.
