Pakistan Tobacco Company officer-bearers, Assistant Commissioner Takhtbhai Sobia Zia, and local elders were also present during the event. The DPO added that since the Pakistan Tobacco Company was established in Shergarh, it would supply half of the plant saplings; while the remaining would be provided by Mardan Police.

This recent drive is a result of the launch of Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan’s ‘Clean and Green Pakistan Index’ last year in November — with the initiative aimed at resisting the hazardous effects of global warming. In a separate effort, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Forest Department also planted 8.4 million saplings in the Hazara district to combat pollution. Additionally, besides the KP government, the rest of the provinces have also been launching various tree plantation campaigns and developing artificial forests — all efforts directed at combating the effects of climate change.
