Islamabad: Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed on Sunday said that the Pakistan Railways (PR) would resume its services from April 15 onwards; further stating that Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan had provided his approval to this effect, a news source reported.

As per the publication, Rasheed also announced that the PR had dedicated seven hospitals for treating COVID-19 patients. He said that a railway hospital in Rawalpindi had a capacity for lodging and treating 450 patients.

Moreover, he said that a 50-bed quarantine centre will be set up inside a train. The railway minister said that the railway authorities had dispatched the details of railway employees, collies, and pensioners to the Ehsaas Programme for financial support.

Previously, the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) had approved PKR 6 billion relief package for PR to assist it through the lockdown announced in the aftermath of the novel coronavirus outbreak. It was informed that the relief package will be provided to PR in monthly instalments of PKR 2 billion over three months.
