Hafizabad: Shopkeepers in Hafizabad have started demolishing encroachments and other illegal structures themselves, a news source reported. The district administration carried out an anti-encroachment operation at Fawara Chowk on Jalalpur Road.
Before the authorities could complete the operation, the president of the traders’ association in Madni Bazaar and other representatives requested Assistant Commissioner Zulqarnain to halt the drive for several days so they could carry out the drive themselves.
They added that the district administration should also demolish electricity towers installed in the middle of the road.
The Punjab Local Government and Community Development Department had already sought details of the anti-encroachment operation from civic authorities in their respective areas.
According to a notification, the authorities concerned would provide details of the total area retrieved so far and state land still under the control of illegal occupants and land mafias.
Details pertaining to the anti-encroachment operations have been sought from Lahore, Bahawalpur, Multan, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, and Sargodha authorities.
