Karachi: The Supreme Court-mandated commission on water and sanitation in Sindh expressed reservations over the provincial government’s decision to assign the task of town planning to Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA), a news source reported. The commission has also summoned the Sindh chief secretary on December 13 to come up with the government’s decision on conversion of industrial plots to commercial and to inform the commission on the stance of provincial government on empowering SBCA to regulate town planning.
The commission stated that the job of the government is regulation of construction of buildings. SBCA can’t be assigned the task of town planning through amendment in law since these are – on the face of it – person-specific amendments.
The commission also observed that Sindh Industrial Trading Estate (SITE) and SBCA had allowed conversion of industrial plots into commercial ones but the issue remains since the government has not decided on the matter.
